Jaipur (The Uttam Hindu): Following a recent series of fatal accidents (29 deaths) in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma launched a 15-day statewide road safety drive. The drive began today and will continue until November 18, 2025. In a high-level meeting late last night, the Chief Minister directed the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy on road safety and strict action against responsible officials.

Government's plan?

1. The license of drivers caught driving under the influence or at high speed should be revoked.

2. All illegal encroachments along the national highway should be removed.

3. All truck drivers will undergo eye checkups between November 15th and February 15th.

4. The Medical and Health Department will have to deploy life support ambulances for emergencies.

5. Strict action should be taken against officials who are negligent regarding road safety.

CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said, "Strict action will be taken against any officials, including those in transport, police, and public transport, who are negligent in enforcing road safety rules." He issued several guidelines to all officials, including identifying black spots (where most accidents occur), removing encroachments along highways, and checking drivers' eyesight. The Jaipur-Delhi, Jaipur-Kota, Jaipur-Ajmer, and Jaipur-Bharatpur corridors are particularly prone to accidents. The CM has ordered strict enforcement of traffic rules at these locations.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said, "Departments must not only enforce the law, but also raise public awareness. Discipline in traffic rules should become a civic habit."

It should be noted that on Monday night, a dumper truck crushed 17 vehicles. Fourteen people died and 13 were injured in the accident. Following this tragedy, the government has taken this drastic step.
