Stock market rally: Investors gain ₹68,000 crore as Nifty hits all-time high

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu) – The Indian stock market closed Thursday's trading session with strong gains. The market saw widespread gains. The Sensex closed the day at 85,632.68, up 446.21 points, or 0.52 percent, and the Nifty gained 139.50 points, or 0.54 percent, to 26,192.15.


Both major indices closed near their all-time highs. The Sensex's highest level was 85,978.25 and the Nifty's was 26,277.37, both reached in September 2024. The Nifty Bank hit a new all-time high of 59,440.10 during the day. However, it closed at 59,347.70, up 131.65 points, or 0.22 percent.


Investors made ₹68,000 crore.

The total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies rose to ₹476.42 lakh crore today, from ₹475.74 lakh crore on the previous trading day. Thus, the market cap of BSE-listed companies increased by approximately ₹68,000 crore today. In other words, investors' wealth increased by approximately ₹68,000 crore.


Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, Trent, UltraTech Cement, Power Grid, Adani Ports, ITC, Maruti Suzuki and L&T were among the gainers in the Sensex pack. Asian Paints, HCL Tech, Titan, HUL, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Infosys, M&M, Bharti Airtel and BEL were among the losers. Midcap and smallcap stocks underperformed largecaps. Nifty Midcap 100 index was up 14.50 points at 60,963.55 and Nifty Smallcap 100 index was down 8.70 points at 18,067.25.


Market experts said that market sentiment has been positive due to the possibility of a trade deal between the US and India. Furthermore, technology stocks have remained strong due to strong results from global tech companies. Experts further said that the market sentiment remains positive in the short term. Economic data from India and the US will be crucial for the market in the coming times. The Indian stock market also started on a positive note. At 9:28 am, the Sensex was up 127 points, or 0.15 percent, at 85,314, and the Nifty was up 37 points, or 0.15 percent, at 26,090.
