SBI Securities reported that in the week following the budget presentation, the Sensex delivered positive returns 11 out of 15 times, yielding investors a positive return of 2.10 percent. During this period, the Sensex closed in the red only four times, with an average loss of 2.05 percent.
In the three-month period following the presentation of the budget, the Sensex has delivered positive returns nine times out of 15, with an average profit of 6.77 percent. Meanwhile, the Sensex has delivered negative returns six times, with an average loss of 5.28 percent. A similar trend has been observed in the Nifty. A week after the budget was presented, the Nifty has delivered positive returns 12 times out of 15, with an average profit of 2.04 percent, and negative returns three times, with an average loss of 2.65 percent.
In the three-month period following the budget presentation, the Nifty has delivered positive returns nine out of 15 times, with an average return of 7.40 percent, and the NSE's main index has delivered negative returns six times, with an average loss of 5.46 percent. Small-cap and mid-cap indices have performed similarly to large-cap indexes.
In the week following the budget presentation, the Nifty Midcap Index and Nifty Smallcap Index delivered positive returns 11 out of 15 times, with average returns of 3.1 and 3.3 percent, respectively. Only four times did these two indices deliver negative returns, with average losses of 2.7 percent and 3 percent. In the three-month period following the budget presentation, the Nifty Midcap Index delivered positive returns 10 out of 15 times, with an average return of 8.67 percent, while it delivered negative returns five times, with an average loss of 7.77 percent.
On the other hand, the Smallcap index has given positive returns seven out of 15 times with an average return of 14.54 per cent, while it has given negative returns eight times with an average loss of 8.77 per cent.
