Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal resigns as CEO, this person set to take charge

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Eternal Group, the company that operates the Indian food delivery platform Zomato and the quick commerce platform Blinkit, has announced his resignation. He will be replaced by Albinder Dhindsa, currently the CEO of Blinkit.
The company stated in a filing that Deepinder Goyal's resignation will be effective February 1, 2026. In a letter to shareholders, Goyal stated that he has recently been inclined toward new ideas that involve a high degree of risk, experimentation, and exploration. He further stated that it is best to pursue such ideas outside of a public company like Eternal, as Eternal needs to remain focused and disciplined on its current business strategy. "If these ideas fell within Eternal's strategic scope, I would pursue them within the company," he said.
He concluded, “Although I personally feel I have enough time to continue my current work at Eternal and explore new ideas outside of it, the legal and other expectations from a CEO of a public company in India demand a single-minded focus.”
Recently, there was considerable controversy surrounding the 10-minute delivery rule. The government took a firm stance, advising quick-commerce companies to stop 10-minute deliveries, following which the companies have discontinued them. Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has asked major food delivery and quick-commerce platforms to waive the strict 10-minute delivery time requirement. He stressed that it is important to focus on the safety of delivery workers.
In Delhi, Mandaviya held discussions with officials of BlinkIt, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato, in which he advised them to remove strict delivery time limits from their platforms and promotional material, keeping in mind the safety of delivery personnel.
