Chandigarh shaken by gunfire; property dealer shot dead in public by assailants
The attackers wore helmets to conceal their identities and fled the scene. Bystanders tried to rush him to hospital, but he was already dead. Police are investigating the incident

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu) : A sensation spread in Sector 9, Chandigarh, on Wednesday when unidentified assailants shot and killed a property dealer in broad daylight. The incident occurred as the young man was leaving the gym and getting into his Scorpio car. The assailants, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire on him.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fired approximately 12 rounds. The young man collapsed on the driver's seat after being hit by several bullets. Immediately after the incident, his companions put him in another vehicle and rushed him to PGI, but he died on the way due to excessive bleeding. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Charanpreet Singh, a resident of Kubbaheri village in Mullanpur. According to initial information, he was shot in the stomach, chest, and arm, leaving him in critical condition.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the entire area. Twelve empty cartridges were recovered from the scene. The forensic team has also begun collecting evidence from the scene. Notably, the Chandigarh Administration and SSP offices are located just minutes away from the site of the incident, raising questions about security arrangements. According to sources, the deceased had previously received death threats. He had filed a complaint with the police, but security was not provided. It is reported that his weapon license was also pending.
A local leader who arrived at the scene said that Charanpreet was unmarried and had been active in the real estate business for some time. He had opened his own office about a year and a half ago. Police are currently working to identify the attackers and determine their motive. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined to identify the suspects as soon as possible.
