Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu) : A shocking incident unfolded in broad daylight in Chandigarh on Friday. A young man riding an Activa was brutally stabbed to death by assailants. Police arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident, and the seriously injured man was taken to Sector 16 Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased has been identified as Sumit alias Golu, a resident of Maulijagran (Chandigarh). According to police, Sumit had recently been released from jail on bail in an NDPS (drugs) case. Initial investigations indicate the case stems from an old rivalry. Police are examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the attackers.

Tried to escape by abandoning his Activa, but could not escape

According to eyewitnesses, two young men on a Bullet bike came to carry out the crime. Both were wearing helmets, and one was carrying a sharp weapon. Near the petrol pump near the BJP office in Sector 37, the attackers suddenly attacked Sumit with a knife. He was badly injured by the blows to several parts of his body, including his back.

Due to excessive bleeding, Sumit collapsed about 50 meters away along with his Activa. He then tried to save his life by removing his helmet, but managed to walk only 20 steps before collapsing on the road. Police recovered the deceased's Activa and a shoe from the scene.

The crime scene is surrounded by several major Punjab and central government offices. Despite this, the murder, which occurred in broad daylight in this 24-hour traffic-driven area, has raised questions about the security situation.

The deceased's friend, Kunal, said that Sumit, also known as Golu, had been married just two weeks earlier. He had gone out on Kunal's Activa to buy some groceries and was returning after buying shoes when he was attacked. The family alleges that they had been filing complaints for the past year, but no action was taken in a timely manner. The police have registered a case and intensified the investigation, and raids are underway to find the accused.
