New pet rules: One dog per 5 marla house, Rs 10,000 fine for public defecation

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): If you live in Chandigarh and want to keep a pet dog, then pay attention, this news is very important for you. In Chandigarh, keeping dangerous breeds of dogs, including American Bull Dogs and Pit Bulls, has been banned. The Municipal Corporation has also determined the number of dogs allowed according to the size of the house. The Municipal Corporation has also fixed the maximum number of dogs according to the size of the house. Only one dog can be kept in a house up to five marlas. However, if a five marla house has three floors and a different family lives on each floor, then each family can keep one dog. Two dogs can be kept in a house up to ten marlas, three dogs in a house up to twelve marlas, and four dogs in a house up to one canal.
Each family living on different floors will have to obtain separate registrations based on their living space. Upon receiving a complaint of dog abuse, the municipal team will visit the home to collect evidence. If the complaint is found to be true, the dog can be confiscated and the owner can be prosecuted and fined under the Animal Cruelty Act. The administration has completely banned the entry of pet dogs into major public places in the city. These include Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj, Leisure Valley, Mini Rose Garden, Terrace Garden, Shivalik Garden, Botanical Garden, and all parks and public spaces notified by the Municipal Corporation. Under the new rules, keeping a dog without registration, littering, or leaving food anywhere will result in a fine of up to 10,000 rupees. Dogs are banned from many places, including Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, and Shanti Kunj.
