Metro milestone: 235.8 crore passengers traveled on Delhi metro during 2025
Delhi Metro recorded 235.8 crore passenger journeys in 2025, with a punctuality rate of 99.9%. The network spans 416 km, serving over 55% of India's metro passengers daily

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu) : The Delhi Metro—often hailed as the lifeline of Delhi-NCR—recorded a total of 235.8 crore passenger journeys in the year 2025. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), following the recent inauguration of new sections of the Pink and Magenta Lines by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Delhi Metro has further consolidated its position as the country's largest operational metro network.
Currently, a metro network spanning over 1,143 kilometers is operational across 26 cities in India, serving approximately 1.15 crore passengers daily. Of these, more than 55 percent of daily journeys take place on the Delhi Metro network alone. The metro network in the Delhi-NCR region extends over approximately 416 kilometers, comprising 303 stations, and connects Delhi to Noida, Greater Noida, and Gurugram.
The Delhi Metro currently operates a fleet of 343 trains (comprising 2,368 coaches), conducting approximately 4,508 train trips daily. The metro's punctuality rate stands at approximately 99.9 percent, ranking it among the most reliable metro systems in the world.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, a consistent increase in passenger ridership has been observed. While 228.3 crore journeys were recorded in 2024, this figure rose to 235.8 crore in 2025. On August 8, 2025, a new record was set when 81.87 lakh passengers traveled in a single day.
The Delhi Metro also boasts India's largest driverless metro system, which currently spans approximately 121 kilometers and operates along the Pink and Magenta Lines. To further strengthen the network, several corridors under Phase-IV are currently under construction, and 52 new trains are being procured to cater to future requirements. According to the DMRC, with its extensive network, modern technology, and high operational efficiency, the Delhi Metro has become the backbone of fast, safe, and eco-friendly public transport in Delhi-NCR.
