Air India flight to Mumbai makes emergency landing after engine shuts down mid-air

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): An Air India flight travelling from Delhi to Mumbai was forced to make an emergency return to Delhi after developing a technical issue shortly after take-off. The flight, AI 887, departed from Delhi on Monday but reported signs of a technical malfunction mid-air.
Following standard operating procedures, the flight crew decided to turn back as a precautionary measure. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi airport, and all passengers and crew members were deboarded without any injuries.
Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers, stating that the situation was completely unforeseen. The airline emphasized that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority. After landing, a detailed technical inspection of the aircraft was initiated, and the engineering team began the required checks.
Ground staff at Delhi airport provided immediate assistance to passengers. Alternative arrangements were also made to transport them to Mumbai. An Air India spokesperson confirmed that the decision to return was taken strictly as per safety protocols and assured that all necessary support was being extended to affected passengers.
