Preparations complete to curb Delhi pollution, artificial rain likely today

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Cloud seeding may be conducted today to control air pollution in the capital, Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, if visibility is good, a cloud-seeding aircraft will take off from Kanpur. The aim is to reduce air pollutants through artificial rainfall, thereby improving Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI).
Previously, a cloud seeding test flight was conducted between Burari and Khera, where technical teams evaluated weather conditions. This flight was reportedly successful and preparations are now underway for the actual experiment.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently announced that experts conducted a test of artificial rain in the Burari area on Thursday. She stated that preparations are complete to create artificial rain through cloud seeding for the first time in Delhi. This experiment will prove to be a historic step towards cleaning the capital's air.
The Chief Minister further stated that this initiative is not only a landmark from a technological perspective, but also a significant step towards establishing a scientific approach to combating pollution in Delhi. The government's goal is to make the capital's air clean and the environment sustainable.
According to the government, these efforts will not be limited to the present, but plans are being developed with the future in mind. This cloud seeding experiment is being conducted in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Let us tell you that air pollution has once again choked the capital and surrounding areas. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the State Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), the air quality index in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad has reached dangerous levels. Health experts have advised people to avoid going out in the morning and evening, wear masks, and maintain indoor air quality. If the weather cooperates today, the first attempt at artificial rain in Delhi could prove successful providing some relief to the pollution-stricken capital.
