UP government hikes minimum wages by up to ₹3000 after Noida protests, denies ₹20,000 claim, and announces interim relief effective April 1, 2026.

Noida (The Uttam Hindu): Following violent protests and incidents of arson by workers in Noida, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has announced an interim increase in minimum wages late Monday night. The revised rates will come into effect from April 1, 2026, with hikes of up to ₹3000 across different categories.
The government clarified that this is a temporary (interim) measure. A more comprehensive and permanent wage structure will be decided after a detailed review through a wage board, which is expected to be formed next month.
False claims on ₹20,000 minimum wage denied
Authorities also dismissed viral social media claims suggesting a minimum wage of ₹20,000 per month, calling them completely false and misleading. The government urged people to rely only on official sources for accurate information.
According to the official release, the decision was taken considering current economic conditions and workers’ demands. Meanwhile, the central government is also working towards implementing a uniform national “floor wage” under new labour codes.
