Bankura (The Uttam Hindu): A family dispute took a horrific turn in West Bengal’s Bankura district when a woman allegedly killed her husband by attacking him with an axe early Saturday morning in Pakhanna village under the Barjora police station area. Their five-year-old daughter was present at the scene. The woman also attacked her brother-in-law when he tried to save his brother, leaving him seriously injured. Police have arrested the accused woman.

The deceased has been identified as Ujjwal Chakraborty. According to police and local residents, Ujjwal married Jhuma Chakraborty, a resident of Manohar village, in 2017. The couple have a five-year-old daughter. It is reported that since their marriage, Jhuma had been pressuring her husband to move away from his brothers and the joint family. The issue frequently led to disputes between the couple.

Early Saturday morning, Ujjwal’s elder brother, Sanat Chakraborty, suddenly heard a loud noise from the room, as if a heavy object had fallen. He rushed towards his brother’s room and saw Jhuma striking Ujjwal on the neck with an axe in front of their daughter. When Sanat tried to stop her, she attacked him as well, seriously injuring his hand.

After receiving information about the incident, police from Barjora police station reached the spot and took custody of Ujjwal’s blood-soaked body. The body has been sent to Bankura Sammilani Medical College for post-mortem examination. Police have arrested Jhuma and seized the axe allegedly used in the crime. The weapon has been sent for forensic examination. Police are investigating all aspects of the case.
