Bomb threat issued to Mumbai Metro, BSE, high court and Vidhan Bhavan; police on high alert
Bomb threats sent via email to Mumbai Metro, BSE, Bombay High Court and Vidhan Bhavan trigger security alert

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Panic spread in the city after bomb threats were issued to several key locations in Mumbai, including the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and the Bombay High Court. The threats were sent through emails warning of explosions at multiple places. Following the alerts, authorities tightened security arrangements across the affected areas.
According to Mumbai Police, threatening emails were received on Thursday morning by the Bombay Stock Exchange, Vidhan Bhavan, and the High Court. Security was immediately strengthened and necessary legal action was initiated at the concerned police stations. A spokesperson for BSE said, “We have received a threatening email. As a precaution, necessary arrangements have been initiated and we are coordinating with the relevant security agencies.”
The email sent to Vidhan Bhavan reportedly stated that a bomb had been placed inside the building. As a precautionary measure, the entire assembly complex was evacuated. Journalists and staff members were asked to leave the premises. A bomb squad team rushed to the spot and launched a thorough search operation. A dog squad was also deployed to detect any explosive material quickly. Officials said no bomb or explosive has been found so far, but the search will continue until authorities are fully satisfied.
Later, threatening emails were also reported to have been sent to Mumbai Metro and several banks. However, no suspicious object has been found anywhere in the city so far.
Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde also reacted to the threats. He stated that the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) received an email at 6:57 a.m. The message allegedly warned of an attack using bombs during the ongoing budget session. According to the threat, four high-profile targets in Mumbai were identified — Vidhan Bhavan, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Bombay High Court, and Mumbai Metro.
Preliminary reports suggest the email threatening the Assembly, Metro, and the stock exchange could be linked to pro-Khalistani protesters. Police sources said the sender clearly mentioned the possible use of missiles and bombs to target these locations. Mumbai Police has been placed on high alert, and investigations into the threatening emails are currently underway.
