New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Thursday inaugurated an Aadhaar Seva Kendra at the Azadpur Metro Station complex. With the commencement of this centre, residents of the surrounding areas will now be able to access Aadhaar-related services close to their homes. Facilities such as Aadhaar updates, biometric corrections, address changes, enrolment of children and other essential services will now be available with ease.

The Chief Minister informed that approval has been granted for eight new Aadhaar Seva Kendras in Delhi, out of which five centres were inaugurated simultaneously today. This will further strengthen Aadhaar services across the capital. Congratulating the people, she said that this initiative is an important step towards advancing the Digital India Mission and will promote good governance, transparency and citizen convenience. On the occasion, Model Town MLA Shri Ashok Goyal Devaraha, UIDAI CEO Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, local councillors and senior officials of the concerned departments were also present.

Aadhaar: A strong foundation of good governance

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Aadhaar has today become a robust system ensuring dignity for the poor, protection of rights and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. This system has established a reliable and transparent mechanism to deliver the benefits of government schemes directly to eligible beneficiaries. She noted that more than 143 crore citizens across the country are linked with Aadhaar, while in Delhi approximately 2.5 crore people have already been enrolled. Aadhaar has not only provided citizens with a credible digital identity but has also ensured a transparent and trustworthy guarantee of direct benefit transfers (DBT), enabling government benefits to reach eligible beneficiaries directly.

Curbs on fake beneficiaries

The Chief Minister said that Aadhaar’s biometric and iris verification systems have played a significant role in effectively curbing fake documents, illegal identities and duplicate beneficiaries. Through this system, more than 4 crore fake LPG connections have been eliminated nationwide, over 5 crore duplicate ration cards have been removed, more than 11 lakh ineligible rural beneficiaries have been excluded from lists, over 31 lakh minority beneficiaries who were availing benefits illegally have been removed, more than 12 lakh duplicate social welfare beneficiaries have been identified and eliminated from the system, and over 1 crore fake beneficiaries under women and child development schemes have been struck off. She said these measures have ensured the protection of government resources, enhanced the credibility of welfare schemes and given renewed strength to transparency in the country’s economic system.

The Chief Minister further informed that the Delhi Government is now providing facilities for Aadhaar enrolment and biometric updates for children directly in government schools. Under this initiative, biometric updates of nearly two lakh children have already been successfully completed. This will ensure timely access to benefits under education, health and nutrition schemes.

She added that under administrative reforms, the Delhi Government is rapidly implementing e-Office, e-filing and paperless governance. Today, work from the Chief Minister’s Office to the Legislative Assembly is being carried out through a digital file system, making the decision-making process faster, more transparent and more accountable. The Chief Minister reiterated that the goal of the Delhi Government is to ensure easy access to digital services for every citizen, so that the benefits of governance reach the last person in the queue in a timely and transparent manner.
