New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The Special Task Force (STF) of the South-East District Police achieved a major success in the Badarpur area of New Delhi. Notorious criminal Mohammad Salim alias "Ganja" was injured in a shootout between police and a criminal late Friday night. He was arrested and admitted to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Police had received intelligence that Mohammad Salim, an active member of the Nasir and Danish Pehelwan gang, was about to arrive in Badarpur with the intention of carrying out a major crime. Based on the information, the Special Task Force (STF) cordoned off the area and laid a trap. As Salim arrived at the scene, police signaled him to stop, but realizing he was surrounded, he opened fire. In retaliation, a police bullet struck him in the leg, subduing him on the spot.
Mohammad Salim, alias "Ganja," had long been a headache for the Delhi Police. He had over 75 criminal cases registered against him, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, theft, and burglary. He was absconding in more than 20 serious cases. Salim's name also surfaced in the murder of notorious gangster Salim Pehlwan and he was currently working for the Nasir-Danish Pehlwan gang.
Following the encounter, police recovered illegal weapons, live ammunition, and other incriminating material from the scene. Officials say Salim's arrest will have a major impact on criminal gangs operating in the capital and help curb crime.
Police are now investigating who provided him shelter during his escape and what potential crimes he was planning. This police action is being considered an example of professional vigilance and efficiency, and a stern warning to criminals.
