Delhi-NCR Drenched in Monsoon Showers, IMD Puts 10 States on Alert

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Monsoon showers have provided much-needed relief from the heat in several parts of the country, including the national capital. Heavy rainfall was recorded in Delhi last night, with dense clouds, thunder and lightning dominating the skies. The downpour led to a noticeable dip in temperature, making the weather pleasant for Delhiites.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more intense rainfall across multiple regions. An orange alert has been issued for six states: Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Assam, Maharashtra and the coastal belt of Karnataka. Additionally a yellow alert covers most of India excluding Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure system has developed from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan through Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, extending to the Bay of Bengal. This atmospheric condition is expected to trigger heavy rainfall across these areas.
In total, the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in ten states and union territories — Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and coastal Andhra Pradesh along with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Madhya Pradesh is among the worst affected with a red alert declared in several districts. These include Sehore, Betul, Hoshangabad, Chhindwara, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Dindori, Shahdol and Katni. Thunderstorms and intense rain are likely in these areas prompting officials to remain on high alert.
With the monsoon now active from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, authorities are urging citizens in alert zones to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
