New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi-NCR is once again trapped in extremely toxic air. On Wednesday, the air quality dropped further compared to previous days, with many parts of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad recording AQI readings between 400 and 450, placing them in the ‘severe’ category. The entire region appears like a “gas chamber,” and the impact on people’s health is becoming visible. Hospitals are reporting a sharp increase in patients suffering from breathing issues, eye irritation, coughing, throat problems, and skin-related complaints.

In Delhi, Anand Vihar (402), Chandni Chowk (430), Vivek Vihar (410), Wazirpur (402), RK Puram (418) and Rohini (418) have all entered the severe pollution zone. Noida’s Sector-116 (406), Sector-125 (405) and Sector-1 (397) also show air quality ranging from very poor to severe. In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram (410) and Loni (428) remain in the hazardous category.

Experts warn that prolonged exposure to such polluted air significantly increases the risk of respiratory diseases. Hospitals and respiratory clinics are witnessing a sudden rise in patients. People with asthma and COPD are facing more complications, while even healthy individuals are experiencing constant cough, breathlessness, throat discomfort, and burning eyes.

Children and senior citizens are being advised to take extra precautions. Slow wind speed and falling temperatures are preventing pollutants from dispersing. Vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, construction activities, and stubble burning are adding to the crisis. Health specialists recommend staying indoors, wearing masks outdoors, avoiding outdoor exercise, and drinking plenty of fluids. Schools may also restrict outdoor activities to protect children.
