Desi Hack to Beat the Cold: Man Rides Bike Wearing a Plastic Drum, Friend Sleeps on Cot Behind; Video Goes Viral

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Riding a bike during winter mornings and evenings can be quite a challenge. People usually rely on thick jackets, mufflers, and shawls to survive the biting cold, yet the shivering often continues. Meanwhile, a video going viral on social media has left everyone stunned, as it showcases a “desi jugad” that surpasses all previous hacks. In the clip, a man has turned a plastic drum into his personal armour to beat the cold. The unusual bike setup and the rider’s style have surprised viewers while also making them burst into laughter.
The viral video looks less like a film scene or scientific experiment and more like pure rural innovation. It shows a man riding a bike, but instead of winter clothing, he is wearing a large plastic drum. He has carved out two holes at eye level to see through, along with side openings to extend his hands and steer the bike. The creativity doesn’t end there. Attached to the back of the bike is a charpoy-like structure on which another man is seen comfortably sleeping under a blanket. Wearing this plastic “armour,” the rider appears completely unaffected by the cold as he drives smoothly down the road.

The video was shared on X (Twitter) by user @DashrathDhange4 with the caption: “Invented a desi technology to beat the cold! How is our technique? What would you like to say?” The 17-second clip has spread rapidly online and has already been viewed more than 1.5 lakh times. However, while the idea looks amusing, it is extremely unsafe from a road-safety perspective. The stunt ignores basic traffic norms and could easily lead to an accident. Viewers are treating it only as entertainment and are advised not to imitate it under any circumstances.
People’s reactions to the video have also been overwhelming. Many users have commented with a mix of humour and disbelief. One joked, “India is truly a country of engineers,” while another said that with the cold increasing, such ideas might become common. Some praised the creativity of the jugad, saying it was funny yet clever. However, others criticised it as foolish and dangerous, with one user pointing out that such antics put both the rider and others on the road at risk.
