New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking incident of late-night firing was reported from Shastri Park area of Northeast Delhi on Thursday, where two cousins were shot by unidentified assailants. One of them died on the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Uwam, while the injured youth, Nadeem, suffered a bullet injury to his abdomen. Police have launched an investigation and are currently searching for the attackers.

According to the police, they received a call around 3 AM reporting that a man was lying injured on the service road near the Shastri Park Red Light crossing. A police team from Shastri Park station immediately reached the spot and found two young men with gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared Uwam dead on arrival.

Uwam’s body has been sent to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for post-mortem, while Nadeem is undergoing treatment there in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Uwam had traveled from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, along with his mother to visit his sister in Kailash Nagar, Gali No. 17, Gandhi Nagar, Delhi. His father said that the family had been searching for him since around 2 AM, but later received a call from police informing them that he had been found injured — and soon after, his death was confirmed.

Police are yet to determine the motive behind the shooting or identify the attackers. Investigators stated that more details will emerge once Nadeem regains consciousness and provides his statement.

Several key clues have been recovered from the scene, and teams are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to track down the culprits.

The incident has created panic among local residents. Police have increased patrolling in the area and appealed to people to maintain calm. Authorities expressed confidence that the perpetrators will be nabbed soon.
