New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Galgotias University faced major international embarrassment during the AI Impact Summit held in Delhi after its representatives falsely claimed a Chinese-made robot as an in-house innovation. Following widespread criticism and objections from organisers, the university issued a public apology and withdrew its pavilion from the summit.

In an official statement released by the university registrar, the management expressed deep regret over the incident and offered an unconditional apology for the confusion caused. The statement clarified that the controversy arose due to incorrect information shared by a university professor present at the pavilion, who was not authorised to speak to the media. The university said the claim was made in the excitement of facing cameras and without proper technical knowledge of the product.

The controversy began when a professor demonstrated a robotic dog named “Orion” and claimed that it was developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence. However, experts soon identified the robot as Unitree Go2, manufactured by China’s Unitree Robotics. As the truth emerged, the university faced intense backlash and trolling on social media, forcing both the professor and the institution to admit that the robot was not their creation.

The issue also drew a strong reaction from the government. IT Secretary S. Krishnan stated that showcasing products not developed by the exhibiting institution is unacceptable and damages the credibility of major national and international platforms. While Galgotias University has reiterated its commitment to academic integrity and transparency, the incident has raised serious questions about its credibility.
