New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): There's significant and reassuring news for the millions of migrant workers who have fled their homes to Delhi in search of work. Often, the biggest challenge these people face coming from other states is obtaining a cooking gas connection, as they can't get one without a valid address proof. But now, the Delhi government's Food, Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department has found a straightforward solution to this major problem. Now, migrants won't need to wander from door to door or resort to any other means to get a gas cylinder.

How to get gas cylinder without a permanent address

In a press conference held on Friday, the department clarified that any migrant worker can now easily obtain a gas cylinder, even without a regular LPG connection. Under this new facility, people simply need to show their Aadhaar card or any valid ID proof. A small 5-kilogram cylinder will be immediately provided. This important government decision will most benefit millions of people living in rented rooms who lack a permanent address or proof of address in Delhi.

There is no shortage of fuel in the capital

Informing about this new initiative, the department's Additional Commissioner, Arun Kumar Jha, fully assured the public that there is currently no fuel or energy crisis in Delhi. He stated that LPG, PNG, petrol, and diesel are available in sufficient quantities in the capital. Furthermore, to address any gas black marketing or shortages and to promptly resolve public complaints, the government has established a dedicated control room, which monitors the situation 24 hours a day.

Government's special emphasis on adopting PNG connection

Along with providing relief, the government is now working rapidly to expand pipelined cooking gas (PNG). The department has urged Delhi residents to switch from LPG to PNG connections as soon as possible in areas where PNG is already available. The government has increased the pace of PNG connections and has now set a target of adding 3,000 new connections per day, up from 1,000 previously. The department has also clearly indicated that if people do not adopt PNG despite its availability, their availability of LPG cylinders may be affected in the future.

Keep your gas connection in the correct category

Currently, there are approximately 5.6 million active domestic LPG connections across Delhi. The department has made a special appeal to all consumers to ensure that their gas connections are registered in the correct category. The government is taking this step to completely curb the commercial use and misuse of domestic gas and to ensure that subsidy benefits reach those in need.
