New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Under the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme, the Bihar Government will transfer ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 10 lakh Jeevika Didis by 14 December. So far, 1 crore 40 lakh women in the state have already benefited from the scheme. The financial support aims to strengthen women economically and promote employment opportunities for them. The government’s goal is to make women self-reliant and provide them with a stable economic foundation.

The government has ensured that all eligible women will receive the amount in their bank accounts by 14 December. The Chief Minister stated that the scheme will help improve the living standards of women and enhance their employment prospects. This initiative is an important step by the Bihar Government towards women’s welfare and empowerment.

The primary objective of the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme is to support one woman from every family in starting the livelihood activity of her choice. Under the scheme, each family’s eligible woman receives ₹10,000 as the first instalment for starting her chosen employment. After the woman begins her work, an assessment is conducted, and based on requirement, additional financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh may be provided. The scheme not only empowers women but also contributes to the economic growth of the state.

The scheme defines “family” as husband, wife, and their unmarried children. An unmarried adult woman whose parents are not alive is considered a single-family unit and receives benefits accordingly. All members of self-help groups in urban areas (one woman per family) are eligible for the scheme. Women who are not currently part of an SHG can be added as members after ensuring they meet the family definition under the scheme.

Eligibility requirements include:

The applicant woman must be between 18 and 60 years of age.

Neither the applicant nor her husband should be an income tax payer.

Neither the applicant nor her husband should be employed in government service (regular or contractual).
