New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Sunday announced a fine of up to ₹5,000 for burning garbage in the open.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a post on the social media platform 'X', urged no laxity in controlling pollution in Delhi. She also requested public participation. She clarified that there is a provision for fines for violating the rules. She wrote, "Any kind of laxity in pollution control will not be tolerated. A fine of up to ₹5,000 will be imposed for burning garbage in the open."
She further wrote, "It is a humble appeal to all Delhiites to cooperate with the government in this effort against pollution, follow the rules, and play their part in building a clean and healthy Delhi." CM Rekha Gupta also shared a 48-second video. It states that on-the-spot action will be taken for violating the rules. The video states, "The Delhi government has launched a strict campaign against pollution. The health of every citizen is the government's primary responsibility. Now, burning garbage, leaves, or plastic in the open will result in a direct fine of Rs 5,000. The MCD and district administration will take action on the spot."
The video states that coal and wood-fired tandoors in hotels and restaurants will be completely shut down. This is strictly prohibited. Only gas and electric-fired tandoors will be allowed. Violations will result in fines and equipment confiscation. Open storage of construction materials on Delhi roads will also no longer be permitted. The Delhi government's directive is clear: "No laxity, no compromise." Only when Delhi stands together will Delhi be clean.
