New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Heavy rains lashed Delhi-NCR on Saturday morning, due to which many areas of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram were flooded. Due to this, there was traffic jam at many places and flight timings were also affected. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Delhi and has warned people to be prepared for continuous rain and the problems caused by it.

Roads were flooded in many areas of Delhi including Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh and Kidwai Nagar. Waterlogging also caused problems in movement near Connaught Place, Mathura Road and Gate No. 7 of Bharat Mandapam.

Flights were delayed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport due to heavy rains. IndiGo Airlines warned passengers on social media to check their flight status online before arriving at the airport. The airline advised to leave with extra time in case of road jams or slow speed and take an alternate route if possible.

The rain brought relief from the humidity and the air quality also improved to a moderate level of 116. The Meteorological Department has predicted the maximum temperature on Saturday to be 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum to be 25 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the water level of Yamuna at the old railway bridge reached 205.15 metres, the highest this season and close to the danger mark of 205.33 metres. This has increased the possibility of flooding in the low-lying areas.

The administration has appealed to the people to be cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and keep an eye on the latest weather information. Teams are engaged in removing water and making the traffic smooth. The festival of Rakshabandhan is also being celebrated across the country on Saturday. In such a situation, despite it being a weekend, managing the traffic system will remain a challenge.
