IndiGo issues travel advisory due to fog, flights to Varanasi, Chandigarh and Dehradun affected

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Dense winter fog has once again started impacting flight operations across North India. Leading airline IndiGo on Thursday issued an important travel advisory, warning passengers of possible disruptions at select airports.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, IndiGo said that Varanasi, Chandigarh and Dehradun are likely to witness dense fog conditions from Thursday evening onwards, which could affect flight operations. To reduce passenger waiting time at airports and ensure safe operations, the airline has pre-emptively cancelled some scheduled flights.
IndiGo stated, “We understand this may impact your travel plans and appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The airline added that its teams are closely monitoring weather conditions and are fully available to assist passengers across all touchpoints, including airport counters, call centres and the mobile app. Passengers have been advised to check live flight status on IndiGo’s official website or app before leaving for the airport.
In case of cancellations, travellers can rebook their flights online or claim a full refund through the airline’s website.
The advisory comes at a time when passenger traffic increases significantly during late December and the Christmas–New Year period. Dense fog can reduce visibility to 50–100 metres, often leading to delays or cancellations during landing and take-off. Similar conditions last year had disrupted hundreds of flights in cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, Amritsar and Patna.
IndiGo has urged passengers to keep extra buffer time for essential travel and stay updated with weather alerts. Other airlines may also issue similar advisories as fog conditions intensify. Airlines and airport authorities continue to coordinate to ensure passenger safety and convenience.
