Kanpur (The Uttam Hindu): Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the high-profile Lamborghini hit-and-run case in Kanpur. Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco trader K.K. Mishra and the main accused in the case, has been arrested. According to media reports, the Special Operations Group (SOG) took him into custody after he remained absconding for several days. He is expected to be produced before the court shortly.
The incident took place on 8 February on VIP Road, where a speeding Lamborghini rammed into a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw, leaving four people injured.
In an attempt to avoid arrest, the accused side used several legal tactics. Earlier, a driver named Mohan M had filed a surrender application in court, claiming that he was the permanent driver and was driving the car at the time of the incident. However, Gwaltole police clarified in their report that Mohan’s name did not appear anywhere during the investigation. Based on this report, the ACJM court rejected the driver’s surrender plea. Defence counsel Dharmendra Kumar Dharmu stated that they would challenge the order before the district judge, arguing that the driver had confessed to the offence.
Police investigation has clearly identified Shivam Kumar Mishra as the person driving the Lamborghini at the time of the accident. Shivam had also filed an application seeking release of the car, claiming that no accident occurred and that the crowd had broken the windshield. However, police informed the court that the offence was committed using Lamborghini car number DL 11 CF 4018. The court has directed Shivam to submit all documents related to the vehicle and instructed the station in-charge to inspect the car and submit a report by 13 February. Police had earlier also issued a notice to Shivam to present his version.
Meanwhile, a new development emerged when the complainant Mohammad Taufiq submitted a compromise deed in court. Taufiq, an e-rickshaw driver from Ghosiyana, Chamanganj, stated that he suffered an injury to his left leg in the accident. He said his treatment expenses had been covered and that he no longer had any grievance against the accused. Advocate Dharmendra Singh Dharmu confirmed that the victim had received medical compensation and was satisfied. Despite the settlement, police action continues, and Shivam will face court proceedings today.
