Law Mocked at Police Station Gate: Mentally Ill Woman Brutally Beaten by ‘Dominant’ Women as Police Look On

Kanpur (The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking incident from Kanpur, both law enforcement and basic humanity came under serious question when a mentally ill woman was brutally assaulted just outside Sisamau police station. Right in front of a temple adjacent to the police station wall, three women dragged, threw to the ground, and beat the helpless woman with sticks, while police personnel present at the spot allegedly remained silent spectators.
According to reports, the victim, identified as Priyanka, had run away from her home in Farrukhabad and reached Kanpur. The viral video clearly shows the women pulling her by the hair, slamming her to the ground, and repeatedly hitting her with sticks. Despite her repeated attempts to get up, she was pushed down again and again. Several bystanders were present, but instead of intervening, most were busy recording videos on their mobile phones. Shockingly, policemen standing outside the police station also did not step in to stop the assault.
Eyewitnesses said the incident began near the temple when the mentally unstable woman allegedly got into an argument with some people. Enraged by this, three local women took the law into their own hands and began assaulting her. The incident has raised serious questions about whether public violence can ever be justified against a mentally ill person, even if she was creating a disturbance.
After the video went viral, the police swung into action. Using the mobile phone found with the woman, police contacted her family and learned that her brother is posted as a warden in Unnao jail. He later arrived at the police station. However, the matter was quietly closed by the police, citing the absence of any written complaint from the victim or her family. Based on this, no action was taken against the women involved, and the victim was sent back with her brother.
Sisamau SHO Rakesh Singh gave a controversial statement, claiming that the woman was chasing people with a stick and that some women were merely trying to bring her to the police station, during which a “minor scuffle” took place. However, the viral video contradicts this version, showing a one-sided and brutal assault. The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns over police inaction and accountability.
