Massive Explosion Near Red Fort: Car Blown to Pieces, 9 Dead, Panic Grips the Area

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The national capital, Delhi, was rocked by a massive explosion near the Red Fort on Monday evening. The blast occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, where a parked car suddenly exploded. According to initial reports, nine people were killed and several others were seriously injured in the incident.

The car caught fire immediately after the explosion, and the flames quickly spread to two nearby vehicles. Within minutes, all three cars were engulfed in flames and completely destroyed.

Panic in the Area, Injured Shifted to LNJP Hospital

The explosion took place near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station — one of the busiest areas in Delhi, especially during evening hours. The loud explosion triggered panic and chaos among people in the vicinity.

Upon receiving the information, police and fire brigade teams rushed to the scene. It took five fire tenders several hours of effort to bring the fire under control. The injured were quickly taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for treatment.

Fire Department’s Statement

The Delhi Fire Department confirmed the incident, stating, “We received information about a car explosion near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station. The fire spread to 3–4 nearby vehicles, causing extensive damage.”

Eyewitness Account: “The Blast Shook the Houses”

An eyewitness described the terrifying scene, saying, “The explosion was so powerful that nearby houses shook, and windowpanes of nearby shops shattered. People started running in fear, and before anyone could understand what was happening, the burning cars turned into fireballs.”

Investigation Underway

Senior police officials reached the site immediately, and a full-scale investigation is underway. Authorities are yet to determine whether the explosion was caused by a CNG leak or some other reason. Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the scene to establish the cause of the blast.
