NDMC Chairman Inaugurates Annual Inter-Departmental Sports Competition at Talkatora Ground

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): The Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Shri Keshav Chandra, today inaugurated the NDMC Annual Inter-Departmental Sports Competition 2025-26 for officers and employees at the Talkatora Cricket Ground in New Delhi, marking the beginning of a vibrant celebration of fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman of the Council, Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Council Members Shri Anil Valmiki and Smt. Sarita Tomar, Council Secretary Shri Rakesh Kumar, senior NDMC officials, a large number of employees, and schoolchildren, reflecting the widespread participation and enthusiasm for sports across the organization.

Shri Keshav Chandra emphasized the crucial role of sports in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being, and discipline. He highlighted that sports are intrinsically linked to a healthy lifestyle and recalled the vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister through initiatives like the Khelo India Movement, which underscores the importance of sports in nation-building. He stated that NDMC is actively implementing various activities to promote sports and fitness among its employees and students.

After formally inaugurating the NDMC sports competition, the Chairman administered the oath of sportsmanship to the participating employees, urging them to compete with true spirit of fair play, discipline, and motivation.

Chairman Shri Chandra informed that these NDMC Inter-Departmental Sports Competitions will continue until March 13, 2026, featuring a wide range of events including track races, discus throw, shot put, javelin throw, tug-of-war, carrom, table tennis, badminton, chess, and other sporting disciplines. More than 3,000 NDMC employees are participating in the competition. He expressed hope for even greater participation in future tournaments, thereby promoting fitness and overall well-being among officers and employees. Encouraging the sports participants, the Vice Chairman of the Municipal Council, Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, stated that Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized that sports are not just about competition, but are the foundation of self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle. He said that initiatives like the Fit India Movement, Khelo India, and the Yoga campaign have reinforced the belief that a healthy India is a strong India. He further added that this ongoing sports event truly embodies this inspiring vision by promoting fitness, unity, and positive energy among NDMC employees.

The Vice Chairman of the Municipal Council further stated that sports not only enhance physical strength but also cultivate leadership qualities, teamwork, and self-confidence. Reiterating the age-old adage that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, he affirmed NDMC's unwavering commitment to promoting a culture of sports and fitness across all departments.

Adding to the day's excitement, a friendly cricket match was organized between the Chairman's XI and the Vice Chairman's XI, comprising senior NDMC officers. The Chairman's XI won the toss and elected to bat first. Both teams displayed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, with Shri Keshav Chandra and Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal leading their respective teams and encouraging the players throughout the match.

This event set a vibrant tone for the month-long sports competitions and reinforced NDMC's commitment to promoting health, unity, and a vibrant work culture among its employees.
