Bagaha (The Uttam Hindu): A fisherman in Bagaha, located in West Champaran district of Bihar, has caught a rare species of fish. The unusual fish got trapped in his net while he was fishing in the Triveni Canal in Ramnagar. As soon as the news spread, people from nearby villages rushed to the spot to see the strange-looking fish.

According to information, a fisherman from Ramnagar was fishing in the Triveni Canal on Sunday. When he pulled his net from the water, he found a fish he had never seen before. The news quickly spread across the area, drawing a large crowd to the fisherman’s spot.

Fish Species Found in the Amazon River

A forest department team reached the location after receiving information. Vijay Prasad, Ranger of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) under Ramnagar, confirmed that the fish is a “Sucker Mouth Catfish,” a species mainly found in the Amazon River in South America. In India, it is also known as “catfish.” Its presence in the Ramnagar canal is highly unusual.

Rescued and Released Into Gandak River

The forest team swiftly carried out the rescue of the rare fish. Ranger Vijay Prasad stated that the fish was taken into custody and safely released into the Gandak River so it could remain in its natural habitat.

Officials believe the fish may have reached the canal through the Gandak River. Water from Nepal’s Narayani River (known as the Gandak River in India) supplies canals including the Triveni Canal. It is suspected that the catfish may have drifted from Nepal’s Kali Gandaki River into the Triveni Canal in Ramnagar.
