New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A powerful explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday triggered panic across the city. Security agencies have detained several suspects in connection with the incident. Among the three key accused are Dr. Muzammil, Dr. Adil Ahmad Dar, and Dr. Umar. According to reports, Dr. Umar died in the blast, while Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adil Ahmad Dar have been arrested. During interrogation, Dr. Muzammil made several critical revelations including that the real target of the group was the Red Fort itself.

Red Fort and Diwali Attacks Were Planned, Recon Conducted in January

Investigating agencies revealed that during questioning, Dr. Muzammil confessed that he and Umar conducted reconnaissance of the Red Fort in the first week of January. Analysis of their mobile phone data confirmed this activity. Officials suspect that the group had planned an attack on January 26, coinciding with India’s Republic Day, and were also planning another bombing during Diwali in a crowded public area.

Explosives Seized Hours Before the Red Fort Blast

Earlier on Monday, Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana Police recovered nearly 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from Faridabad just hours before the explosion near the Red Fort. Police sources indicated that Dr. Umar had links with the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module, and that Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adil Ahmad Dar were also actively involved in the network.

Security has been heightened across Delhi, especially around heritage sites and major public areas, as agencies continue to investigate the terror plot.
