Situation Still Grim! Capital Covered in Smog Blanket, AQI Crosses 400 in Many Areas

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Air pollution levels in Delhi remain extremely severe. On Wednesday morning as well, haze and light fog were visible across the city, while a thick layer of smog covered the sky. Toxic smog in several areas significantly reduced visibility. People were seen stepping out wearing masks, and those suffering from respiratory problems faced serious difficulties. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed the 400 mark, placing it in the “severe” category.
In the morning, visibility in the AIIMS area was very low due to dense smog. Similarly, the AQI around Anand Vihar was recorded at 434, which falls in the severe category. A thick layer of toxic smog was also observed in the ITO area, where the AQI stood at 417, categorized as severe by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Around the Akshardham area, the AQI was recorded at 419, also in the severe range. Meanwhile, the Parliament Street area reported an AQI of 356.
Considering the rising pollution levels, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has formed an expert committee to reduce vehicle-related pollution in the National Capital Region and nearby areas. The committee includes experts from academic institutions, health specialists, representatives from automobile research bodies, and other domain experts. They will suggest a comprehensive and effective roadmap to curb emissions from the transport sector.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, air quality is likely to remain in the very poor to severe category on Sunday and Monday as well.
