SpiceJet flight suffers engine fault, returns shortly after takeoff; emergency declared at Delhi Airport

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A SpiceJet flight SG121 from Delhi to Leh made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday. Around 150 passengers were on board, and all are reported to be safe.
According to available information, shortly after takeoff, the crew received an indication of a technical fault in one of the aircraft’s engines. As a precaution, the pilots decided to return to Delhi. An emergency was declared at the airport to ensure priority landing and readiness of medical and fire services.
After the aircraft landed safely, passengers were deboarded. The airline has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the engine malfunction. The maintenance team is conducting a detailed inspection of the aircraft.
In a separate incident, an air ambulance travelling from Ranchi to Delhi crashed in the Chatra district on Monday evening. The aircraft took off from Ranchi Airport at 7:11 pm and was scheduled to reach Delhi around 8:30 pm.
Approximately 23 minutes after takeoff, at 7:34 pm, contact with Air Traffic Control was lost. The aircraft later crashed near Simaria block in Chatra district. A total of seven people died in the accident. On Tuesday, rescue teams recovered all the bodies. Authorities have ordered an investigation into the crash.
