New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has issued a landmark order permitting the sale and use of only NEERI-certified green crackers in Delhi-NCR. The Court clarified that only certified green crackers can be burst during a specified time period, and their sale or use will remain prohibited outside the designated duration.

The Court directed that sales of green crackers should be conducted exclusively by companies formally certified by NEERI and only at authorized locations. Each green cracker must display a QR code, allowing consumers to verify authenticity and prevent the sale of illegal crackers.

Police and administration have been instructed to form special monitoring teams to regularly check the manufacture, distribution, and sale of green crackers. These teams are responsible for ensuring that traditional or illegal crackers are not sold under any circumstances.

The Supreme Court also set time restrictions for bursting green crackers: 6 AM to 8 AM and 8 PM to 10 PM only. The Court emphasized that this timing is aimed at controlling air pollution and protecting public health.

Following this order, strict surveillance has been mandated in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Police and local authorities must ensure strict compliance with Court guidelines. Environmental experts believe this decision could help manage pollution levels during the festive season, but its effectiveness will depend on strict enforcement and monitoring.
