Supreme Court Stays Enforcement Against End-of-Life Vehicles in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has directed that no action should be taken against owners of end-of-life diesel and petrol vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region. This ruling means that vehicles which have crossed the age limit prescribed under current regulations will not be subjected to penalties, impounding or other enforcement measures for now. The court’s order comes as a relief to thousands of motorists who were facing the risk of losing their vehicles under the strict implementation of the National Green Tribunal’s earlier directives.

The matter pertains to the enforcement of rules that ban diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in an effort to curb air pollution in the capital region. With this latest intervention, the Supreme Court has temporarily halted such actions, though the broader debate on balancing environmental concerns with citizens’ rights to own and operate their vehicles remains ongoing. The case is expected to be taken up for further hearing to determine a long-term resolution.
