Noida (The Uttam Hindu): With air pollution levels in Noida worsening, the Pollution Control Department has intensified its efforts to curb toxic emissions. Under the supervision of Regional Officer Ritesh Kumar Tiwari, the department has formed three special teams to monitor pollution across the city. Authorities have also identified 10 major pollution hotspots, where air quality remains consistently poor.

Each team comprises five officials who will conduct field inspections at construction sites, roads, and industrial areas. The teams have been instructed to take strict action against violators and immediately halt any pollution-causing activities.

Regional Officer Ritesh Kumar Tiwari said that GRAP-1 (Graded Response Action Plan) has already been implemented in Noida, and field-level monitoring is in full swing as per the District Magistrate’s directions. He added that if any violations or irregularities are detected, the concerned authorities are being alerted for prompt corrective measures.

Tiwari also acknowledged that festive traffic has increased pollution and caused some inconvenience but expressed optimism that air quality would improve soon as enforcement strengthens.

Notably, air pollution across the National Capital Region (NCR) has once again reached alarming levels. According to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) readings, most areas in the region, including Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, recorded air quality in the ‘very poor’ category on Friday. Ghaziabad remained the most polluted city, followed by Noida and Delhi.

Environmental experts have advised citizens to limit outdoor activities, especially in the early morning and late evening hours. They have also recommended wearing protective masks and using air purifiers indoors, particularly for elderly people and those suffering from respiratory ailments.
