Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives at Red Fort event, pays homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the three-day grand congregation being held at the historic Red Fort grounds in Delhi to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and offered his respects to Guru Sahib.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra along with prominent Sikh dignitaries and thousands of devotees were present on the occasion. The Home Minister bowed before the Guru Granth Sahib interacted with the Sangat and described the gathering as an unparalleled expression of faith and devotion.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called the event historic and deeply inspiring. She said that when the idea of organizing this three-day congregation was conceived, she did not imagine receiving such immense blessings from the Sangat and Guru Sahib. She expressed joy at the sight of lakhs of devotees gathered in the expansive pandal reflecting how deeply the supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib is cherished across generations.
The Chief Minister noted that the Red Fort—once a witness to Guru Sahib’s martyrdom, the tyranny of Aurangzeb and the sacrifices of Bhai Sati Das Ji, Bhai Mati Das Ji and Bhai Dayala Ji—is today witnessing the devotion of millions. She affirmed that the country has never forgotten Guru Sahib’s sacrifice and will continue to preserve his legacy. To this end, the Delhi Government will organize programs throughout the year across the capital to spread Guru Sahib’s teachings.
She added that despite the recent terrorist attack in Delhi, there were concerns about whether the event could proceed safely. However, the Union Home Minister assured full security cover and committed to personally attending and paying respects. His presence today, she said, has been a major source of support. She also expressed gratitude to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and all partner organizations for their unwavering support over the past two months.
Throughout the day, an uninterrupted flow of devotees continued to arrive at the Red Fort grounds. Devotees participated in the parikrama of Guru Sahib’s holy form, Shabad Kirtan and Ardaas. Members of the Sikh community and the general public described the event as a spiritually uplifting experience where devotion, discipline and positive energy came together.
The massive langar service stood out as a remarkable example of selfless service, with volunteers working tirelessly day and night and people from all walks of life partaking in it with reverence. A special museum showcasing rare documents, photographs and memoirs from the life of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib connected visitors to the rich historical journey. The evening’s light-and-sound show depicting the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji moved the audience deeply.
On this occasion, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Cabinet Ministers were honored by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
