New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The 1990s saw the rise of several iconic Bollywood actresses like Mamta Kulkarni and Ayesha Jhulka, who captivated audiences with both their beauty and acting. Among them was Shilpa Shirodkar, who also left a lasting impression before mysteriously stepping away from the spotlight.

Shilpa made her debut in the film Bhrashtachar opposite Mithun Chakraborty and went on to deliver hits like Bewafa Sanam, Bandish, and Gaja Gamini. However, by the year 2000, she vanished from the industry. After years of absence, she surprised fans by appearing in Bigg Boss 18. Recently, Shilpa shared the story of where she had been during her 23-year break.

Life Beyond the Camera

Appearing as a special guest on Gauahar Khan’s podcast Manoranjan, Shilpa revealed how her life changed after she married banker Aparesh Ranjit and moved abroad. She shifted to New York and later to New Zealand, where she took up a hairdressing course to stay connected with beauty and glamour—fields that reminded her of her film career. She even worked at a salon for two months, but balancing newlywed life with long working hours proved to be difficult.

A New Career and a Humble Resume

Shilpa shared a humorous yet humble memory from her early days of job hunting abroad. Her husband, Aparesh, created her resume. “I told him not to lie—just write that I failed my 10th grade and worked in films,” she recalled. Surprisingly, she received two job offers the very same day. She accepted a position as a credit controller at Dun & Bradstreet, stepping into a role that was completely unfamiliar to her.

A Brief Return to Bollywood

Shilpa eventually returned to the silver screen after a decade with the film Barood and later appeared in Guns of Banaras. However, both films failed to make a mark at the box office. In addition to films, she also found success in Indian television, expanding her career in the entertainment industry once again.
