Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to pay a special tribute to the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who recently passed away in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. A special tribute concert will be held in her honour at the grand opening ceremony of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, to be held in Guwahati on September 30.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia confirmed the news, saying, "The entire Assam is deeply saddened by the passing of Zubin Garg. He deserves this honor. That's why the Assam Cricket Association and the BCCI have organized a tribute for him at the opening ceremony. This will be our biggest tribute to him on behalf of the cricket world."
Saikia said the opening ceremony will feature a special 40-minute performance dedicated to Zubeen Garg. In addition, renowned Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal will perform her popular songs, including the tournament's official song "Bring It Home."
The ICC Women's World Cup 2025 is being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The opening match of the tournament will be played between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30th. This is a great opportunity for the Indian team to win the World Cup at home, and fans are very excited about it.
BCCI Secretary Saikia expressed hope that the Indian women's cricket team will create history by winning the ICC World Cup this year. He said, "The team played brilliantly against Australia recently, even though we lost the series 1-2. This shows that we are now very close to the stronger teams. The Indian women's team has not won an ICC trophy yet, and this is a big opportunity for them. The team's confidence has been boosted by its excellent performance in England."
