Bollywood singer Udit Narayan faces controversy, first wife alleges forced removal of uterus; complaint filed

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Renowned Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan has once again landed in controversy after his first wife, Ranjana, filed a serious complaint at the Women’s Police Station in Supaul district of Bihar. She has alleged that her uterus was removed without her knowledge or consent on the pretext of medical treatment.
According to media reports, Ranjana visited the women’s police station on Tuesday along with her lawyer, Karunakant Jha, and submitted a formal complaint. In her application, she accused Udit Narayan, his brothers Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha, and his second wife Deepa Narayan of being part of a criminal conspiracy.
As per the complaint, Ranjana stated that she is the 61-year-old daughter of Chandrakant Jha from Supaul district. She claimed that she married Udit Narayan on December 7, 1984, following Hindu rituals. In 1985, Udit Narayan reportedly moved to Mumbai to pursue his singing career. Later, she came to know through media reports that he had married Deepa Narayan for the second time. Ranjana alleged that whenever she questioned him about this, she was either misled or her concerns were denied.
Ranjana further alleged that in 1996, Udit Narayan and his brothers took her to a reputed hospital in Delhi for treatment. There, her uterus was allegedly removed without informing her or taking her consent. She also claimed that Deepa Narayan was present at the hospital during that time. According to Ranjana, she became aware of the surgery several years later during another medical check-up, which left her mentally distressed.
She also alleged that in 2006, when she visited Mumbai, Udit Narayan and Deepa Narayan did not allow her to enter the house and behaved badly with her. After this, she went to her in-laws’ place in Nepal, where she was allegedly subjected to humiliation. Since then, she has been living at her parental home. Ranjana said she had earlier approached the Supaul Family Court and the Women’s Commission as well. She claimed that Udit Narayan had once accepted her as his wife and promised a settlement, but later failed to honour his assurances and did not provide any financial support.
Speaking to the media, Ranjana said that she wants justice. She alleged that Udit Narayan makes promises from time to time but does not keep them. She also said that she remains unwell and needs support, but no help has been provided to her.
Women’s Police Station in-charge Anju Tiwari confirmed that the complaint has been received. She stated that the alleged incidents are nearly three decades old and the matter is under investigation. Based on the findings, an FIR will be registered and further action will be taken. At present, the case is under inquiry, and the situation will become clear only after hearing all sides.
