Investigation focuses on event organization, crowd management, and security lapses. CBI seeks clarity on roles of Vijay and Balaji in the tragic incident. Incident claimed lives of many at a political rally in September 2025

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The heat of investigation in the tragic stampede case in Karur, Tamil Nadu has once again reached South superstar and head of the political party 'Tamilaga Vetti Kazhagam' (TVK) Thalapathy Vijay. Taking a tough step in this high-profile case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Vijay again for questioning. The central investigating agency has strictly instructed him to appear at its headquarters in Delhi on March 15. Along with this, Karur MLA V. Senthil Balaji has also been summoned for questioning on March 17, which has created a stir in the political circles of the state.
A lengthy inquiry was conducted in January as well, now the focus is on new clues
The CBI believes that face-to-face questioning of these two leaders is essential to unravel the many unsolved and crucial links in this sensitive case. Thalapathy Vijay previously appeared before the CBI twice in January of this year. During that time, investigating officers spent several hours questioning him about the rally's organization, crowd management, security arrangements, and preparations. Now, after some new and important facts emerged during the investigation, the agency has summoned him again to Delhi to confirm these findings.
MLA Senthil Balaji will also be made to reveal many secrets
The role of Karur MLA V. Senthil Balaji is also under scrutiny in this entire incident. According to CBI sources, the agency will conduct extensive questioning of the MLA regarding the organization of the event and local administrative preparations. The investigation team primarily wants to understand the key local actors involved in organizing such a large political rally and the security decisions that led to significant lapses. For this reason, he has been asked to appear at the CBI headquarters in Delhi on March 17th.
That dark day of September 27, 2025 and the intervention of the Supreme Court
This entire investigation relates to the horrific incident that occurred on September 27, 2025, in Karur, Tamil Nadu, and shocked the entire nation. A massive political rally for Thalapathy Vijay was held that day, with thousands of people gathering to see their favorite star. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, leading to a massive stampede. This tragic accident claimed the lives of many innocent people, and left scores seriously injured. Initially, the case was investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the state government, but due to the seriousness and impartiality of the case, the Supreme Court later transferred the investigation directly to the CBI.
