Bollywood A-listers defend 'Dhurandhar 2' amid propaganda storm: 'It's not propaganda, it's cinema'

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Aditya Dhar's directorial venture "Dhurandhar The Revenge" (Dhurandhar 2) is currently making waves at the box office. Within just 10 days of its release, the film has earned such impressive sums that it has shattered the records of even the biggest superstars. The film has crossed the magical figure of ₹1200 crore worldwide. With this huge earning, this action thriller starring Ranveer Singh has become the second most successful film in Bollywood history. In this storm of box office success, Ranveer Singh has even left King Khan, i.e. Shahrukh Khan, behind. However, along with this historic success of the film, a major controversy is also deepening.
Why are questions of propaganda being raised on the story of Lyari in Pakistan?
The story of "Dhurandhar 2" is set in the notorious area of Lyari in Pakistan. The film depicts how a brave Indian intelligence agent travels to Lyari and joins a gang of dreaded gangsters and terrorists, undertaking a dangerous mission to eliminate them from within. This plot is drawing audiences to theaters in large numbers, but a certain section of social media is raising questions about it. Many internet users allege that director Aditya Dhar has deliberately made a "propaganda film," sparking a debate on social media.
Piyush Mishra and Boman Irani defended the film, silencing critics
Amidst these allegations of propaganda against the film, veteran Bollywood actors have now openly defended "Dhurandhar 2." Recently, veteran actors Piyush Mishra and Boman Irani, who attended the Delhi Film Festival, candidly expressed their opinions on the controversy. Responding to a media question, Piyush Mishra clearly stated that there is a fine line between propaganda and cinema. He stated that the screenplay for "Dhurandhar" is brilliantly written and is completely authentic cinema, so calling it propaganda would be completely wrong. Boman Irani, meanwhile, said that although he hasn't seen the film yet, prominent figures in the film industry are praising it. He stressed that we should celebrate the film's historic success together.
Akshay Kumar scared of 'Dhurandhar'! 'Bhoot Bangla' release date postponed
The negative discussions and propaganda controversy circulating on social media aren't having the slightest impact on the earnings of "Dhurandhar 2." The film is not only a worldwide hit, but in India too, most of its shows are running house-full, attracting huge crowds. The impact of "Dhurandhar 2"'s theatrical release is clearly visible on the release of other films. Fearing this revenue loss, the makers of Akshay Kumar's upcoming film "Bhoot Bangla" have also pulled back. The film, originally scheduled to hit theaters on April 10th, is now rumored to have been postponed to April 17th to avoid a box office clash.
