New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav's troubles don't seem to be abating. The Delhi High Court heard the actor's bail plea on Thursday, which is in Tihar Jail for cheque bounce and loan default cases. The court sternly reprimanded Yadav, stating, "You didn't keep your promises, which is why you're in jail today." Rajpal had applied for bail due to a family wedding.

'I gave my statement two dozen times, but I didn't pay the money'

Justice Swaran Kanta Sharma, during the hearing, remarked that Rajpal Yadav had stated at least two dozen times that he would honor his commitment and pay the money, but he failed to do so each time. The court noted that Yadav's lawyer had previously stated that the money would be given to the complainant, but now he was saying that the money would be deposited in court. Justice Sharma, noting the lawyers' varying statements, asked them to make their own decisions and adjourned the hearing until 2:30 p.m.

He surrendered on February 5

Actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered in Tihar Jail on February 5, 2026. The Delhi High Court rejected his last-minute plea and sentenced him to six months' imprisonment for repeatedly violating court orders. The case dates back to 2010 and involves outstanding dues and check bounces totaling approximately ₹9 crore following the failure of his production venture and film, "Aata Pata Lapata."

Sonu Sood and music promoters came forward to help

Industry figures have come forward to help Rajpal Yadav during this difficult time. Music promoter Indrajit Singh has pledged ₹1.11 crore to help him repay his debts. Actor Sonu Sood and filmmaker Anees Bazmee have also pledged their support. Meanwhile, Rajpal Yadav's family is planning his niece's wedding in a few days. The family is hopeful that he will be granted bail before the wedding, although the case is still pending in court.
