Kangana Ranaut appears in Bathinda Court, apologizes to elderly farmer over 2020 tweet

Bathinda (The Uttam Hindu): BJP MP from Mandi and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut appeared in a Bathinda court on Monday regarding an old controversial tweet. The defamation case relates to comments she made about an elderly farmer during the farmers' protest. In court, Kangana apologized for her statement and said it all stemmed from a "misunderstanding."
Speaking to the media after her appearance, MP Kangana said, "There was a misunderstanding. I have sent a message to the mother (elderly female farmer) that she was the victim of a misunderstanding. I did not intend this." She added, "I never imagined that this controversy would escalate into this. Whether in Punjab or Himachal, every mother is revered by me."
The complainant, farmer Mahinder Kaur, was not present during Monday's hearing, but her husband was present at the court, with whom Kangana spoke. A bail bond was also filed on Kangana's behalf, provided by her father. The court has set November 24th for the next hearing.
This incident dates back to the 2021 farmers' protest. Kangana Ranaut tweeted about Mahinder Kaur, an 87-year-old farmer from Bahadurgarh Jandia village in Bathinda. It is alleged that Kangana referred to her as a woman who takes 100 rupees to participate in protests. Mahinder Kaur filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut for this comment.
