Bengaluru (The Uttam Hindu): Celebrating the blockbuster success of 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh seems to be embroiled in an old controversy once again. An important hearing was held in the Karnataka High Court regarding the controversy related to the mimicry of a scene from the film 'Kantara' and the FIR registered against the actor. During this, Ranveer Singh's lawyer made a big statement in the court, saying that the actor is fully prepared to file an affidavit in the court and apologize unconditionally. The next hearing of this high-profile case will now be held on April 10, where Ranveer will have to present his written apology before the court.

Serious questions raised on social media apology

During the court hearing, the prosecution strongly objected to the actor's apology posted on social media platforms. The prosecution argued that there was no guarantee that the apology was written by Ranveer himself; it could have been posted by his PR or social media team. In response to this pointed question, Ranveer Singh's lawyer clarified that the actor was personally hurt by the entire incident and would soon submit his own written apology to the court. The lawyer also offered that the "Dhurandhar 2" star was willing to voluntarily visit the Chamundi Temple in Mysore to apologize in person.

What is all this fuss about 'Kantara'?

The controversy began during the 2025 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. During the closing ceremony of the event, Ranveer Singh spoke from the stage, praising the Rishabh Shetty-starrer "Kantara: Chapter 1." During the performance, he mimicked the film's pivotal scene in which the demon Chamundi enters the actor's body. During the mimicry, Ranveer misheard the word "female ghost" for the demon Chamundi. This comment deeply hurt religious sentiments, leading to widespread controversy, leading to legal action against the actor.

This clarification was given when the controversy escalated

After being severely trolled on social media and a case was filed, Ranveer Singh was forced to publicly defend himself. He shared a lengthy post in his defense, stating that his intention was only to highlight Rishabh Shetty's brilliant performance. He clarified that he had no intention of hurting anyone's religious sentiments or insulting any sacred deity. It remains to be seen whether the actor will find permanent relief from this legal entanglement after the affidavit is filed in court on April 10th.
