New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A major legal battle has begun over the huge property of late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor worth about Rs 30,000 crore. On Wednesday, in the Delhi High Court, the children of Sanjay Kapoor's first wife and actress Karisma Kapoor challenged the will, in which all the personal property has been transferred to their stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapoor. The High Court, taking cognizance of the case, has issued summons to Priya Kapoor and ordered her to file a reply within two weeks.

Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira Kapoor and Kian Raj Kapoor, in their petition have termed the alleged will issued by father Sanjay Kapoor on March 21 as "fake and wrong". Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing on behalf of the children, argued that through this will, both the children have been completely excluded from the property. He said, "Sanjay Kapoor always kept his documents organized, but this will is suspicious and is not even registered. Neither Sanjay ever mentioned it nor Priya or anyone else told about it." The children have demanded a fifth share in their father's property.

At the same time, senior advocate Rajiv Nair, appearing for Sanjay Kapoor's widow Priya Kapoor, demanded the dismissal of the petition. He said, "I am his legal wife and widow. Where were the claims of love and affection when she (Karisma) fought a long divorce battle in the Supreme Court?" Nair also claimed that the children have already been given property worth about Rs 1900 crore through a trust and it is not legally mandatory to register the will.

Hearing the case, the bench of Justice Jyoti Singh heard the arguments of both the parties and took cognizance of the petition prima facie. The court has issued summons to all the other defendants including the main defendant Priya Kapoor and directed them to file their reply within two weeks. Along with this, the court has also strictly ordered Priya Kapoor to present the complete details of all the movable and immovable properties of the late Sanjay Kapoor and the disputed will before the court in a sealed envelope.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Kapoor's mother also pleaded the court to order a status quo on the property worth Rs 10 thousand crores. The next hearing of the case will be on October 9, the day the court will consider imposing an interim stay order. Let us tell you that Sanjay Kapoor died on June 12 while playing polo in England.
