Let It Be Released’: SC Refuses to Stop Udaipur Files, Sparks Nationwide Buzz

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to stay the release of the film Udaipur Files, which is based on the high-profile murder case of Rajasthan tailor Kanhaiya Lal. The plea seeking a stay was filed by Mohammed Javed, one of the accused in the case. The court also refused to grant an urgent hearing of the matter. A vacation bench of the Supreme Court, which is functioning during the summer recess, asked the petitioner to raise the matter before the appropriate regular bench after the court reopens on July 14.

Mohammed Javed’s petition had sought to block the film's release, claiming it could affect his right to a fair trial and incite communal tensions. However, the court did not find it appropriate to intervene at this stage.

The film, which is reportedly inspired by real events surrounding the brutal 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, has already sparked political and public debate. Despite the controversy, the Supreme Court’s decision has cleared the path for the movie’s scheduled release. The case is expected to be taken up after the court resumes regular sittings post-summer break.
