Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News): Stars: 4, Director: Kayoze Irani, Cast: Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Presented by: Star Studios, Producer: Dharma Productions.

Actor Kayoze Irani's first film as a director, 'Sarzameen', is a bold and extremely touching film. It is not based on show, but on emotions and this is the reason for its success.

Set against the backdrop of the conflict-ridden Kashmir, the story is about a family torn apart by ideologies and bound by love. Essentially, it is the story of a family whose ideological inclinations tear apart everything they once stood for. The story of the film revolves around Colonel Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran), his wife Mehar (Kajol) and their son Harman (Ibrahim Ali Khan).

There is a dialogue in the film that sums it all up, “Nothing is greater than the salutation to the land…even if it is my son.” It strikes a chord, because this isn’t just a political thriller—it’s a battle between personal and national duty that explores what do you choose when your own blood is at risk?

Talking about Kajol's performance, she has given one of the most emotionally charged performances of her career. Prithviraj brings calm gravity. But, the real surprise here is Ibrahim as he delivers a balanced performance.

The tension between love and loyalty, anger and regret is where Sarzameen really shines. Visually, Sarzameen tells the story wonderfully without any exaggeration. Kashmir is not just a setting, it is a character. The writing is multi-layered and emotionally expressed in a deep way.

What really makes Sarzameen strong is the sensitivity with which Kayoze Irani presents the story. Sarzameen is not a film you just watch. It is a film you spend time with, think about, and feel.
