Mumbai(The Uttam Hindu): Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, have once again landed in controversy after being booked in a massive ₹60.4 crore fraud case. The FIR, registered at Juhu Police Station by local businessman Deepak Kothari — Director of Lotus Capital Financial Services — accuses the celebrity couple of cheating through their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd., once a home-shopping and online retail platform.

According to the complaint, in 2015, Kothari was introduced to Shilpa and Raj by a man named Rajesh Arya. The couple, then major shareholders of the company, allegedly sought a ₹75 crore loan for business expansion but later requested the amount as an investment. They promised monthly returns with 12% interest, along with repayment of the principal.

Kothari claims to have invested ₹31 crore in April 2015 and another ₹28 crore in September 2015. However, in 2016, Shilpa resigned as a company director, while Raj Kundra had given a personal guarantee. In 2017, the company faced insolvency proceedings due to breach of agreement. Kothari alleges that his funds were not used for the business but diverted for personal expenses.

The case has been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for detailed investigation. Police have booked the accused under IPC sections related to cheating and forgery.
