New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court on Monday gave an important verdict and strictly ordered five people, including social media influencer and famous comedian Samay Raina, to publicly apologize for making fun of the disabled. The court has clarified that appropriate fine or punishment can also be imposed in this case later.

This action was taken during the hearing of a petition filed by 'SMA Cure Foundation', which alleged that many comedians make insensitive and derogatory comments against persons with disabilities in their programs and podcasts. Apart from Samay Raina, the petition also names Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjit Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi is hearing the case.

In the court, the comedians' lawyer admitted that all of them will post an apology on their YouTube channels and other social media platforms. On this, the court ordered that along with posting the apology, all of them will also have to file an affidavit. The court said that if they follow their promise, they will be exempted from personal appearance for the time being, but the question of fine imposed on them will be considered later.

Giving a wider scope to this case, the Supreme Court has also made the Central Government a party. The court has directed the Attorney General to prepare a detailed guideline to prevent such incidents in future. In making this guideline, suggestions will also be taken from the petitioner 'SMA Cure Foundation' and other stakeholders to ensure that the dignity and respect of any person is not hurt. The court also clarified that this case has also been linked with the 'India's Got Latent' controversy involving Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani.
